Look To The Past
Boston History
The city of Boston has played a critical role in American history for hundreds of years, and visitors today can get up close to the foundational moments, places, and monuments that helped shape this country. Founded in 1636 by the Massachusetts General Court, book a tour at Harvard University, widely considered the oldest institution of higher education in the United States. The Freedom Trail covers 16 nationally significant historic sights that will guide you through more than 250 years of American history and explores Boston’s role in the American Revolution. Maybe you’ll even throw some tea in the harbor.
But the American Revolution isn’t the only cultural impact Boston has made on the USA, there’s much more of this city to discover. Join a park ranger on The Black Heritage Trail® Tour to explore the rich history of the Black community in Beacon Hill, or dive into the long history of Irish immigrants and their descendants on the Irish Heritage Trail.
From walking in the footsteps of presidents to discovering new communities, you can find inspiration around every corner in Boston.
