The Smart Traveler’s Guide

Graduation Season In Boston is the time where the world’s greatest minds converge. Here’s how to craft the perfect itinerary.

Graduation in Boston is more than a date on the calendar; it’s a whole season. Restaurants are busy, trains are crowded, and families move between ceremonies, photos, and celebrations. If you’re attending Harvard, Boston University, MIT, Northeastern, or Boston College graduations, planning ahead will help your weekend go smoothly.

Here’s what to know for 2026: key dates, when to book, how to get around, and why The Atlas Hotel in Allston is a smart base for graduation week.

What You’ll Learn In This Guide

  • Graduation weekend details for Harvard, MIT, Boston University, Northeastern, and Boston College.
  • When to book your hotel.
  • Where to stay if you’re juggling Cambridge ceremonies and Boston plans.
  • The easiest ways to get around during commencement season.
  • Where to buy Harvard gear and gifts without adding another stop.
  • Photo spots and between-events ideas to round out the weekend.

Book Graduation Dates Early

Many universities hold ceremonies within the same few weeks, so hotels sell out across Cambridge and Boston. Restaurants book up early, especially for larger parties (6+). Even public transit can be preferred as ride shares like Uber/Lyft are reserved or overbooked.

Expect higher hotel demand, longer wait times for reservations, and heavier traffic in campus neighborhoods. You’ll feel it most on the main ceremony days.
